If you don't already have a rail pass, flying standby (at least for under25s) is a fast and affordable option in cutting travel costs. Outside normal banking hours you'll also be able to change money in exchange offices at airports and ferry terminals, and in post offices (look for the "PK Exchange" sign); as well as at Forex exchange offices again, see the relevant "Listings" sections. Communications Communications post and phones within Sweden are good, and as most people speak at least some English you won't go far wrong in the post or telephone office. You'll be able to keep in touch with home by tuning into the TV which relies heavily on English and American programmes or listening to one of the Englishlanguage radio stations. Post Post offices are open MonFri 9am6pm, Sat 9amnoon, with some branches closed on Saturday throughout July, Sweden's holiday month. You can buy stamps at post offices, most newspaper kiosks, tobacconists and hotels. Poste restante is available at all main post offices; take your passport along to claim mail. Phones For international telephone calls either head for the (rare) telephone office (Tele or Те1еЬиЩ, usually open outside normal shopping hours until around 9pm daily, or dial direct from public pay phones.
