Nevertheless, there are bargains to be had if you do want to stay even for the least welloff visitor and in summer at least you'll be inspired by the fact that the parks, canals and lively street atmosphere are all free and fun. Arrival and information There are car ferry connections from England, Denmark and Germany. Scandinavian Seaways ferries from England (Harwich and Newcastle) arrive well out of the centre at Skandiahamn, but there are special buses waiting outside to shutde everyone to Nils Ericsonsplatsen in the city, for 30kr (children ISkr). For Scandinavian Seaways departures, catch the same bus from platform V at Nils Ericsonsplatsen ninety minutes before the ship leaves. The Gothenburg Card see below is not valid on this bus. Stena Line ferries («031775 00 GO) operating to and from Denmark (Fredrikshavn) dock twenty minutes' walk from the city centre. From the Germany (Kiel) ferry dropoff it's a threekilometre hike along the riverside and into the city. Several buses, though, run past the terminal on the main road, Oskarsleden; the #86 runs into the city, or take tram #3 from nearby Chapmanstorg, which runs through the city to Central Station. If you're leaving on the 7pm ferry to Kiel, you can catch a Stena Line bus from Nils Ericsonsplatsen at 5.50pm. Trains and buses trs arrive at Central Station (info «02075 75 75; international train info e03180 58 10) which forms one side of Drottningtorget. Inside there's an 10 office and the Swebus ticket office (MonSat 7.30am6pm, Sun iu0am6pm; «03110 32 85), where you can buy bus tickets for services beeen Gothenburg and Oslo. Bussresebyra, Drottningatan 50 («03180 The airport From Landvetter airport (flight information daily 7am10pm on e03l 94 11 00), 25km east of the city, buses run roughly every fifteen minutes into the centre, stopping in Drottningtorget, outside Central Station it's a 35minute journey (Flygbuss daily 5am11.15pm; 50kr). There are departures to the airport from Central Station every fifteen to twenty minutes fiom Sam to 11.30pm (Sat 10.30pm). There are car rental outlets at the airport. It's open all year (MonFri 9.30am6pm, Sat 9.30am3pm), hands out free maps, sells the Gothenburg Card (see below) and books hotel and private rooms.
