The north coast: Bohuslan trickier Reaching the most picturesque parts of Bohuslan is easiest with your own tran port, and any of the smaller roads off the E6 yield myriad camping beaches. Even in high season, you'll have little troublefiлding a spot, though' worth getting hold of the comprehensive Camping Guide for the Swedish Coast, free from the tourist office in Gothenburg. By public transport, it s  get around, although the railway line rans north from Gothenburg through dustrial UDDEVALLA, from where a branch line heads for Stromstad, right on Se coast around three hours north of Gothenburg. Stromstad Set amongst domed, grey rocks and a series of indented bays, STROMSTAD has a denuded appearance that's at odds with its southerly situation. Despite this, it's one of Sweden's oldest resorts, first developed in the eighteenth century as a spa: until the 1920s, elegant Stockhohn ladies strolled in the town park below the church, an area that was closed to the common people during the summer season. The park is now more likely to be full of trendy young Swedes who, in recent years, have appropriated the town as a resort, taking advantage of the cheap accommodation on offer and Stromstad's proximity to Gothenburg (or even Oslo). Train travellers may be put off by the fact that Stromstad is a deadend on a branch line fiom Uddevalla, but the ferry connections with Sandeflord, Fredrikstad and Halden in Norway (and from there to the Norwegian rail system and Oslo) make it a diversion worth considering. With a day or two to spare, the nearby Koster islands beckon renowned, at least locally, for having the most sunshine hours in Europe between May and September and, quite believably, more than London has in a whole year. Arrival and accommodation Arrivals are mostly around Sodra Hamnen, where the train and bus stations face the feny terminal for Sandeflord. Ferries to Fredrikstad and Halden leave from Norra Hamnen, lOOm to the north on the other side of the rocky promontory, Laholmen, as do the ferries to the Koster islands (see below).
